Turning a free Islamic app's audience into supporters: 2.5× donations in eight months
Muslims Day is a free Islamic companion app with 6.6M+ downloads, kept running by its users' donations. Paid media had to grow donations, not just installs. As Media Buying Strategist I helped build the strategy and the setup underneath it: content, ad account and data integration, SDK and Firebase, push notifications and CRM on GoHighLevel, and budget optimization. Eight months later, donations were 2.5 times higher.

The brand
An all-in-one Islamic companion, funded by the people who use it
Muslims Day covers a Muslim's day from Fajr to Isha: prayer times and alarms, the Quran with translation and tafseer, duas, a Qibla compass, a digital tasbeeh, nearby mosques and the Mahfil video feed. It started in 2015 as "App of Ramadan" and now runs as a software initiative under Kahf.
The core features are free for everyone. The team is funded by a premium subscription and, above all, by users who choose to give. That makes donations the number that keeps the app alive.
How supporters give. Donations happen outside the app, on a separate Support Us page:

The challenge
More donations, not more installs
With millions of free users, growth was never about reach alone. The goal was more people choosing to support the app, and four things made that hard.
01The money moves outside the appA user sees an ad, opens the app, then gives on a web page through a mobile wallet. Without connected tracking, no ad platform can tell which campaign produced a donor.Connect donation data and in-app events back to the ad platforms.
02Small gifts, tight economicsMost gifts are modest local-currency amounts, so cheap clicks and installs don't pay back.Judge every campaign by donor value and move budget to what produces donors.
03A faith audience expects respectHard-sell urgency doesn't fit an app people use for worship.Value-led content that earns trust before it asks.
04One gift doesn't sustain a free appRecurring support matters more than a single donation.Push notifications and a GoHighLevel CRM to bring supporters back.
The approach
Measure donations end to end, then let the data decide
Tracking came first. Once every platform could see a donation, content, re-engagement and budget decisions could all run on the same signal.

One data foundation under three growth levers
The execution
Four tracks of work over eight months
Each track fed the others: measurement told content and budget what worked, and the CRM turned new donors into returning ones.
Track 01 · Measurement
Let every ad see a donation
I set up the ad account structure and connected donation data back to the ad platforms, so campaigns could optimize for real supporters instead of cheap clicks. In the app, I implemented the ad SDKs and Firebase to track the journey after install, with key events feeding both analytics and campaign optimization.
Track 02 · Content strategy
Earn trust, then ask
I built the content plan around why people already give to Muslims Day: it helps millions of Muslims with their daily ibadah. Creative led with the app's value and the reward of supporting good work, then made the ask, in Bangla and English.
Track 03 · Push & CRM on GoHighLevel
Bring supporters back
I connected push notifications and the CRM through a GoHighLevel setup. Users could be segmented by behavior and support history, then re-engaged with the right message. Paid media brought people in; the CRM and push brought them back to give again.
Track 04 · Budget
Spend follows donations
With donation data in place, I shifted spend toward the campaigns and audiences producing donors. Budget was reviewed and reallocated on an ongoing basis: underperformers were cut, winners were scaled.
The results
Donations grew 2.5× in eight months
Beyond the headline number, Muslims Day came away with a growth system it can keep running.

What Muslims Day kept
Ad spend tied directly to donations, not vanity metrics
App and web tracking that follows a user from first ad to first gift
A CRM and push setup that turns one-time givers into repeat supporters
A budget process that moves money to what works, month after month
Muslims Day already had the audience and the trust. My job was to connect every ad to a donation, then bring supporters back.

My role
What I worked on
Helped develop the media buying strategy, with donations as the goal rather than installs
Built the content strategy: value-led, faith-first creative in Bangla and English
Set up the ad account and the data integration that sends donation data back to the platforms
Implemented the ad SDKs and Firebase in the app
Integrated push notifications and the CRM through a GoHighLevel setup
Planned budget distribution and optimized it against donation results
What I took from it
Key insights
Fix measurement before scaling spend
Once platforms could see donations, optimization did the heavy lifting.
Retention multiplies acquisition
The first gift is the start; push and CRM make the second one likely.
Trust is the lever for faith brands
Respectful, value-led messaging fits an audience that uses the app for worship.
Why this case matters
Growth that respects the audience
Muslims Day didn't need louder ads. It needed ads that could see a donation, content that earned trust, and a way to bring supporters back. Putting those together grew donations 2.5× in eight months, for an app that keeps its core features free for everyone.
